The advantages of Solar PV-T

Solar PV-T combines solar PV and thermal technologies to create a panel that generates electricity while heating your water supply. As a result, they are popular for homeowners with limited roof space as PV-T installations require fewer panels than a PV and thermal install.

Solar PV-T combines two renewable energy technologies into a single panel, providing you with low carbon electricity and heat.

  • Generate more energy per m2 of your roof
  • A great choice for those with smaller roof space
  • An environmentally-friendly sustainable source of energy
  • Can be combined with Heat Pumps to supply hot water around your home

How do solar PV-T panels work?

Solar PV-T (photovoltaic thermal) collectors convert solar energy into thermal and electrical power. They achieve this by combining solar PV and thermal technology, making them more efficient than solar PV systems.

    • The PV cells convert sunlight energy into electricity.
    • The thermal collection transfers excess heat from the PV module to a fluid which is used to heat your water supply.

PV (photovoltaic) cells typically have an efficiency of 15 to 20%, meaning 60-70% of the energy is converted to heat which increases the temperature of the PV cells. The increase in temperature makes the cells less efficient.

In contrast, PV-T collectors transfer heat away from the PV cells to a fluid. This fluid then cools the cells, making them more efficient. In fact, Solar PVT systems generate three times more energy than the same-size PV system.

Save roof space & maximise efficiency

Typical solar installations require solar PV to provide electricity and solar thermal to heat your water supply. This means you need two types of panels on your roof. However, because solar PVT combines the two technologies, you can maximise your roof’s efficiency.

    Why choose Vomax Energy?

Solar PV-T systems require specialist installers experienced in PV-T technology. These systems are more complex than PV and thermal installations alone.

At Vomax Energy, our technicians undergo intensive training across multiple manufacturers to ensure every system is installed professionally and provides maximum efficiency for your home. Get in touch with our service team to find out if solar PV-T is suitable for your home.
